Resilient Youth State of the Nation Report:
The state of wellbeing in Australian students

  • The Resilient Youth State of the Nation Reports provide a valuable snapshot of the wellbeing of children and young people in Australia. The 2023 report is based on data collected from over 140,000 Australian school students, aged 7-18, by Resilient Youth Australia (RYA) using the Resilience Survey - an annual measure of the mental and social health, resilience and engagement of Australian school students.

Surveys are administered to over one thousand schools across every state and territory each year, providing one of the most current and representative indicators of student wellbeing across Australia. In partnership with Resilient Youth Australia and The Resilience Project, the reports are provided at no cost in the hope that this information will inform and guide policy and practise towards a healthier and more resilient community.

For questions about the survey process, or for your school to partipate, please contact Resilient Youth Australia directly here. For questions about any of our reports or related research please contact WiLDlab.

  • Northern Rivers Resilient Kids Program

Following devasting floods in 2022, WiLDlab in collaboration with Resilient Youth Australia were consulted to survey children in the Northern Rivers region of NSW as part of The Resilient Kids Program. The program is being delivered by Healthy North Coast as part of a multi-million-dollar grant from the National Emergency Management Agency and aims to “deliver initiatives that support children and young people to recover from trauma, reduce long-term mental health impacts of natural disaster, and promote social and emotional wellbeing”.

A total of 6,611 children and young people from 75 schools completed the survey, the largest group ever to complete the survey following a natural disaster. The results provide important data about the wellbeing of young people following floods in the region, to establish a baseline and track changes over time.
