Wellbeing in Learning & Development Laboratory

Exploring mechanisms that link our everyday experiences with mental wellbeing and learning

The Wellbeing in Learning and Development Lab (WiLDlab) is situated within The School of Psychology at The University of Adelaide. At WiLDlab, we are inspired to understand how real-world environments benefit people and produce hope and empowerment to live a fulfilled life.  We do this by exploring mechanisms that link our everyday experiences with well-being and learning. These experiences include things like spending time in nature, social interactions, sleep and play.

A key part of our activity is our partnership with Resilient Youth Australia Pty Ltd, reporting on the state of youth wellbeing in Australia.

Our Areas of Research

Attention & Learning

This research theme aims to understand how everyday experiences impact processes of attention and learning. Much of this work is experimental, and also includes survey-based work in educational settings

Wellbeing

Wellbeing is a key focus of our work. We primarily survey young people in school to understand how different factors promote or inhibit psychological wellbeing. A key aspect of this work is our annual report of the state of youth wellbeing in Australia in collaboration with Resilient Youth Australia.

Nature

At the centre of much of our work is understanding the human-nature relationship. We are interested in how engagement and exposure to natural environments promotes connection to nature, pro-environmental action, and benefits to cognition and wellbeing.
